Counseling

We’re glad you’re here.  We know that if you’re looking at this page, you probably have an area of your life that you would like to see some changes occur.  We think you’re in a good place to get you on the path of healing, hope, and change.  We love to meet with people, because we love people.  We don’t think anyone is beyond hope or repair.  We also believe that all of us (ourselves included) need God to help us be the people we want to be and the people He created us to be.  You won’t find a holier than thou attitude here.  You’ll find compassionate listeners here who will point you to God and His Word (the Bible).  We will show you the scriptures that teach us how God intended us to live our lives, and pray with you for change.  You’ll find that God has the answers for how to live life… afterall, he created life.  We would love to spend time with you.  We cannot promise that all your difficulties will evaporate.  However, when a person willingly submits to God’s instructions and clings to his promises there is hope and help and often, great change.

COUNSELORS

All of our counselors, whether they are pastors or laypersons, go through training for Biblical counseling. Further, our counselors have gone through the process of receiving biblical counsel in at least one area of their life.  Therefore, our counselors understand what it is like to be seeking counsel.  We hope that means you find compassion, gentleness, understanding, and hope when you meet with us.  At this time, we offer biblical counseling on Mondays from 1-5pm, and Wednesdays from 1-5pm.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL SESSION LOOK LIKE?

A typical session is one hour. Your first session will be spent sharing the area of life you need some help in.  We’ll listen, take notes, ask some questions and then share with you a plan of hope.  Your next sessions will be working through that plan.  At the end of each session we will give you some exercises to work on and some scriptures to work through.  These exercises and biblical scriptures will begin to bring you into freedom.  They will help you begin to form good habits throughout your week and normal life experiences.  We find the most change happens not in the counseling session, but through the exercises and the time spent in God’s word.  With that said each session is critical to celebrating the victories, picking ourselves up if we fell short, and building upon the last session.

WHAT AREAS DO YOU TYPICALLY OFFER COUNSEL IN?

We see folks with all kinds of problems, but the most common would be those struggling in their marriage, helping parents with their children, those dealing with sexual sin, and those struggling with their emotions (e.g. fear, depression or anger). In all cases, we use the Bible, God’s Sufficient Word, to answer the problems of life.

HOW MANY WEEKS DO I NEED TO COMMIT TO THIS?

Every situation is unique.  Every scenario is different.  Every person is different.  You won’t be put into a cookie cutter biblical counseling model.  Your sessions will be created for your unique situation, circumstances, and personality.  However, we do not believe in long drawn out counseling.  We want you to be able to function on your own without becoming dependent upon a counselor.  This is why we set up our counseling with the aforementioned exercises and scriptures so that you learn how to make healthy decision for your life on your own and develop a deep meaningful relationship with God so that He guides you through life. With that in mind, sessions typically last anywhere from 8-15 weeks.  Sometimes less, rarely longer.

COST

Our counselors volunteer their time so that we can offer this counseling free of charge. However, out of respect for our staff we require a $50 deposit which is forfeited for last minute cancellations. If you leave the counseling program or graduate from counseling, without a cancellation, your deposit is returned.  If you received help, and would like to help others you are free to make a donation, but this is not required and not asked for.  You will never be asked to make a donation, you will only be asked to make a deposit.
